In this webinar artist Sebastian Moody will use their own practice as a case study to discuss how text and language are used in contemporary visual art.
The participant will:
- Learn the historical origins and evolution of text in the visual arts from concrete poetry and conceptual art to more contemporary applications.
- Understand the important role context plays in shaping the reception and interpretation of text-based artworks.
- Focus on public text art and its potential for creating social, political, humourous, and poetic works in this context.

Your Facilitator: Sebastian Moody is a Queensland-based conceptual artist with a wide-ranging practice centred around language.
His recent projects include Open Studio at Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art where he engaged with their collection of instructional Fluxus art works to build a meditation space and poem-generating machine. Moody also recently completed commissions for Museum of Brisbane, Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane City Council, and Home of the Arts.
