Terry Deen of QAGOMA discusses the gallery’s Art as Exchange program, which has been working with regional artists, teachers, arts workers and volunteers to support and strengthen arts and cultural learning in regional Queensland. He will present findings from the program’s research conducted in regional centres across the state, touching on topics such as:
– The perceived value of the arts
– The limits of funding and availability of arts spaces
– Access to professional learning opportunities and resources
– The role of support by councils and school administrators

Presenter
Terry Deen is the Head of Learning at the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art. QAGOMA Learning launched in October 2015, with a view towards opening a Learning Centre based at the Queensland Art Gallery.
Terry’s work in arts learning is informed by ten years’ experience as a secondary art and design teacher. He is engaged in Queensland’s design education community as the 2014 Queensland-Smithsonian Cooper Hewitt Design Education Fellow. Terry currently works across a broad array of communities, disciplines and practices including access, education, regional engagement, arts research and advocacy. His department is working towards the development of an All-Ages Learning Centre at the Queensland Art Gallery.
