Rewilding the Urban Jungle
Who really wants to live in a concrete landscape? Let’s reclaim those ugly car parks and boring stretches of apartment blocks and shops with wild, rambling nature.
In this workshop, we will use a collage technique to rewild urban landscape photographs with luscious green forest and all the creatures we’d like to see inhabiting those mundane spaces. Your vision may be a sprawl of colourful flowers, skyscrapers given over to waterfalls, or streetscapes of gums and lilyponds. Let your imagination go wild and create a whimsical urban jungle where nature rules once again.
No skills necessary. This workshop is a great way to reflect on what has been lost through the clearing of our natural environment to make way for urban convenience. But also, to imagine how we might include nature in our visions for future urban projects.
All materials provided.
Works of art created by young workshop participants will feature in an exhibition at The Court House.
These sessions are being held as part of the Cairns opening weekend of Paint the Town, the 2021 touring exhibition of the 2021 Queensland Regional Art Awards.

Additional Information
Shifting between media and contemporary methods, artist Bianca Tainsh’s experiential works are embedded in heterogeneous research and existential exploration. Archives of self-generated and cyber-sourced material, saturated with semiotic rhetoric become the provenance for video, digital media, assemblages, and live art, engendering a reflection on contemporary dilemmas.
Based on the Sunshine Coast, Tainshwas the first resident artist selected for Punctum and Horizon Festival’s Seedpod Pilot and over the last ten years has exhibited in solo and group shows in Australia and overseas. She has participated in international residency programs and has been the recipient of an ArtStart grant. As an advocate of Art for Change, Tainsh has been invited to present a TEDx talk, webinars and as a panelistfor symposiums.
