Media Release: Flying Arts Regional Leadership Project

Flying Arts Alliance has been awarded $60,000 from the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund for a new strategic partnership to support regional artists in Queensland.

A new regional arts leadership role will be tasked to focus on new opportunities for regional artists, including brokering relationships between diverse regional communities, supporting regional artists to identify opportunities for growth and professional development, expanding Flying Arts’ demand-driven services and programs, and promoting First Nations artists and initiatives.

Through this strategic opportunity, Flying Arts aims to connect artists working across multiple artforms, enhance connections between regional councils, regional and metropolitan-based companies, the Queensland Regional Arts Service Network (RASN) and the Regional Arts Fund.

Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP, said that it was great to see the Regional Arts Fund support communities across regional Queensland to develop, collaborate and create through targeted funding for Flying Arts Alliance.

“The Morrison Government is supporting artists to develop important works and engage with their local communities, which will in turn provide long-term cultural, economic and social benefits that help to reignite the wider arts sector,” Minister Fletcher said. Flying Arts CEO Kerryanne Farrer says the new initiative reflects the organisation’s strategic commitment to regional arts in Queensland.

“Flying Arts holds a unique and essential place in the Queensland creative sector as a key catalyst in the visual and regional arts eco-system,” said Ms Farrer.

“For 50 years we have been supporting rural, regional, and remote arts communities to strengthen wellbeing, promote social connection, engagement and creativity and launched arts careers. This new role will expand our commitment to champion regional arts through strengthening strategic partnerships and collaborations, to continue support our regional artists in new ways of making art and working in the arts.”

“Flying Arts is proud to continue to administer the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund for a further six years (2021-27) and deliver our core activity for another four years (2022-25) with support of Organisations funding from the Queensland Government.”

“In our 50th year, Flying Arts is looking to deepen and broaden our work across regions and arts and cultural practices throughout Queensland, through this strategic state-wide leadership role.”
