Curious about a career in the arts after school? The Young Creatives Program is an exciting two-day professional development program guided by artist Melania Jack.

Meet local artists and arts industry professionals to explore career pathways and connect with likeminded students. Gain real-world experience in hands-on activities, exhibition tours, and panel discussions. Receive region-specific mentoring through group discussions and making sessions. This is a multi-disciplinary program – join us if you are interested in art, creative projects, film, writing, drama or anything creative!

Program Highlights:

  • Exhibition tour and talks at Court House Gallery Cairns and behind the scenes look at install with  NorthSite Contemporary Arts
  • Hands-on workshops with local practitioners including printmaking, photography, theatre and creative writing – all exploring creative development and the artists’ experiences in the arts
  • Panel discussion with industry leaders and artists discussing pathways, their journey in the arts and the variety of creative opportunities available
  • creative skills development, mentoring and fun activities!

What to bring:

  • a hat
  • comfortable clothes, and shoes for walking

Additional Information

Melania Jack is a multimedia artist working with projection, sound, digital collage, and performance. Based in Gimuy (Cairns), their work critically explores gender, labor, and technology, now expanding into posthuman feminisms, environmental ethics, and non-human rights. They have produced 3 touring live shows with electronic act – The Ironing Maidens and have exhibited both in solo and group shows, co-authored papers for NIME and ISEA conferences, and received awards for their interactive, installation work and performances.
