Photographic and soundscape artist Judith Parrott travelled to Chinchilla to host a beginner’s photography workshop. This involved demonstration and practice of basic photographic skills and techniques. The group then focused on ‘The Art of Seeing’ – composition and design, moving away from the literal to the creative, and also some technical advice on use of cameras and their functions. Judith also gave a smattering of advice on Adobe Lightroom editing.
Judith was pleased with the reception and enthusiasm for her workshop, noting that there was a waiting list of fifteen people for the initial session. The gallery is keen for her to return and host another!
She was also invited to judge a photography competition at the local Lapunyah Gallery, leading to the possibility of ongoing connections with the community.
Judith believes that community events like this workshop and presentation are important as they help people to make new friends, learn new skills, connect and observe and focus – all essential to the health and wellbeing of communities. “They were keen to learn, attentive, friendly and enthusiastic,” she said. “[I took] pleasure in knowing I had been useful and they had achieved good results.”
