COVID-19 Response from Flying Arts Alliance

Here at Flying Arts Alliance, the health, wellbeing and safety of our staff, clients and community are our number one priority. We are carefully monitoring and adhering to the directions and advice of Queensland Health, the Australian Government Department of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO), and other relevant authorities.

From Monday, 23 March, office staff of Flying Arts Alliance have been working from home in response to COVID-19 and to ensure safe social distancing. Our office is closed, but we are still in operation and welcome your enquiries. We are committed to delivering programs and services to our clients under this modified workplace arrangement.

For prompt response in the short-term, we advise that communication with Flying Arts staff is best conducted via email.

Flying Arts recognises the important role we play as a catalyst and a connector for individuals and communities, particularly in regional and remote Queensland. We are therefore committed to working closely with our colleagues in other delivery organisations and our Flying Arts facilitators and other stakeholders to minimise disruption where possible. Please be patient with us if there is a delay in our response.

Covid-19 Resources

A number of funding opportunities, free online resources and support now exists for artists, organisations and arts communities during the coronavirus pandemic. Flying Arts will endeavour to keep our community up-to-date with the latest information as the situation evolves.

Advice regarding current Flying Arts Programs

• If you have booked one of our upcoming scheduled programs or workshops, we may get in touch to discuss alternative delivery options if social distancing is still in effect leading up to the delivery date.
• The Iterate | Elaborate exhibition at Charters Towers has been postponed. Future dates are to be determined.

You can still engage with Flying Arts by:

  • Taking part in online professional development with our Scheduled Program. While a number of our in-person workshops have been postponed for the foreseeable future, webinars and online artist consultations are definitely still going ahead! We are also examining a variety of alternative delivery formats for some of our postponed activities, so watch this space.
  • Starting to prepare your entry for the Queensland Regional Art Awards 2020. Make use of any extra time you might have in the studio to produce an exceptional artwork for this art award dedicated to recognising and showcasing Queensland’s regional and remote artists. !
  • Engaging your community with online workshops and projects through our By Request program. Our staff are on hand to discuss how we can keep your schools and communities connected while physically distancing. Many of our arts business workshops and visual arts workshops can be adapted for online delivery.
  • Booking a touring exhibition for late 2020 – 2022! While our exhibitions are on hold until galleries reopen, we are planning ahead so that communities in Queensland have access to quality in-person arts experiences again once this crisis has passed. A number of touring exhibitions are available.
  • Browsing our online resources. Did you know that we have online resources for artists, educators, schools and communities? We’re looking at additional ways to deliver resources over the coming weeks, too!
  • Keeping in touch! Follow Flying Arts on Facebook and Linkedin for regular updates and links to our programs, industry new and more. Do you have a question, feedback, needs, requests or suggestions for us right now? Get in contact directly!

Advice regarding the Regional Arts Fund

• Assessment of current applications for RAF Community Project Grants will proceed as planned. These grants will be assessed as if they are able to happen, in the context for which they were applied. Successful projects will be given the opportunity to be extended or postponed for up to 12 months. Through communication with successful applicants, plans can be altered or postponed.
• Regional Arts Australia is working with the Department on the approach for “live” projects, of which there are 152 across the country. We will be in touch with some clear direction for those projects in the coming days.

NAVA has put together a survey to comprehensively understand the impacts of COVID-19 on the Australian arts sector and represent them in detail. We encourage you to complete the NAVA COVID-19 Arts Impact Survey and share it far and wide.

Over fifty of Australia’s leading arts, creative, cultural and entertainment industry bodies have united to send a clear message to the Prime Minister: act now to ensure that Australia’s cultural life survives COVID-19. You can find the letter here. Please consider adding your organisation’s signature, and sharing on social media with the hastag #DontCancelCreativity
