As part of the prize for winning the Remote Artist Award at the 2025 Queensland Regional Art Awards (QRAA), moo (Sam Matthews) presents a two-week solo exhibition at Flying Arts titled ‘Maintaining Momentum’.

moo (Sam Matthews) is a ceramic artist residing in far north Queensland. Her works are inspired by the natural environment, with a focus on immersion in, interaction with, and discovery of, a sense of place and peace within it. She has made her home in various rural and forested areas throughout the Douglas Shire, strengthening her connection to the region’s landscapes.

This exhibition is a continuation of moo’s winning work ‘Remembering to Breathe’. The necessity of conserving resources and making do are central to her work – as is her love for the natural environment and finding “place” and “space” amongst it.

From first-hand experience, moo has found that much can be learnt from noticing the small things: the quiet moments between, the acts of looking, listening and thinking. When one makes space for these moments, discovery follows. Finding balance in a life of busy-ness is not an easy thing, but it is the key.

The exhibition will run from 9 – 24 July.

moo’s winning work of the Remote Artist award is ‘Remembering to Breathe’ 2025. This work is currently on tour across the state as part of the QRAA Touring Exhibition (locations here).
