As part of the prize for winning the Mervyn Moriarty Landscape Award at the 2025 Queensland Regional Art Awards, Jonathon Westacott presents a two-week solo exhibition at Flying Arts.
Jonathon’s work is an exploration of detail, visually concerned with form and colour but also a curiosity to understand what is not obvious in a place. Diminishing wilderness is a worrying fact and sharing a love and awe of the natural world is his way of highlighting our natural heritage.
Jonathon’s focus on wilderness is a way of preserving or remembering places and the perfect way to achieve this is through the resilient material of glass. This medium can capture memory, experience and emotion for thousands of years. It is also a tough master with intricate and elusive properties.
The Exhibition will run from 16-30 April. Gallery opening hours: 10:00am-4:00pm, Thursday and Friday
Jonathon’s winning work of the Mervyn Moriarty Landscape Award is Banyena (2024). This work is currently on tour across the state as part of the QRAA Touring Exhibition (locations here).
