Jacqueline Scotcher explores ideas of self, place and belonging, but ultimately what bodily presence feels like moving around a particular environment. Through the performance of painting she aims to evoke encounters with the landscape in terms of colour, texture, shifting perspectives and movement; encouraging the viewer to explore new landscapes, bring memories to the surface or rethink their familiar surrounds in terms of their moving bodily presence. Most recently, her work centres around walking-painting practices around the wet tropics of Far North Queensland and in the sub-tropical climate around Brisbane. Jacqueline’s research interests include pedestrian movement, place-making, embodied perception, ecological aesthetics and conveying lived experience in the landscape through abstract painting.
