Mid-career artists from across Queensland are invited to take part in Where to Next…?, a unique weekend intensive to explore and map out the next stages of their career.

 Now in its third year, the program builds on the foundations created by Flying Arts Alliance and NAVA (National Association for the Visual Arts), who established this opportunity after research identified the need for more support for artists in long-term career management, planning, audience development and commercial viability.

Flying Arts Alliance is currently accepting registrations for the program, which will take place from on 20 – 21 July.

Participants will tap the combined expertise of other mid-career artists, evaluate their current creative practices, and set individual goals to move forward with a thriving arts business.

Flying Arts Executive Officer, Kerryanne Farrer said, “Mid-career artists could well have an established body of work and have received industry recognition, but may find their efforts to advance into major institutions or make a living from their practice have plateaued. Where to Next…? aims to help them move beyond that plateau.”

The program will be facilitated by Dr Cathryn Lloyd, who holds a doctoral degree in Creative Industries and has extensive experience across the creative industries, arts business, management and education. She notes, “It is so important to take time to replenish, consider the bigger picture and to get to the heart of why we do what we do. This weekend gives artists an effective structure and process to do just that.”

Past participants have found the program to be of great benefit. “I found the networking, sharing and feedback from the conveners and the other artists to be affirming and inspiring. I walked away with a solid plan for my future arts career and a renewed enthusiasm for my practice,” said one participating artist.

Where to Next…? Business Intensive for Mid-Career Artists will take place 20 – 21 July at the University of Southern Queensland, Springfield campus. Registrations close 28 June at https://flyingarts.org.au/events/bookings-open-where-to-next/.
