Postponed - Sculptural assemblage: making memory from place

Award-winning artists Rose Rigley and Pamela Kusabs show you how to create a sculptural assemblage based on personal recollections and  environmental memory. Assemblage is an art form that is accessible to creatives of all levels. Witness how sourcing of everyday objects, readily available natural materials, and artificial intervention can encourage hands-on making and offer ample inspiration for creative outcomes. Be guided through a construction process that works with natural pigments from soils found in and around the local area and connects back to each person’s sense of belonging to place.

You will:

– Work with earth pigments to build imaginative grounds on paper-based surfaces.
– Employ slow stitching skills to embellish these grounds and create a new structure.
– Undertake string making from leaves, paper and repurposed materials to bind.
– Use time and connective choices to fabricate, evolve and complete the assemblage.
– Make wider applications to creative and classroom practices.

Participants to Bring:

– Collection of soil samples – different colours from different areas in local surrounds.
– Selection of organic materials including leaves and small sticks with interesting shapes and textures.
– Photocopies or printed photographs of objects that trigger personal memories of place.
– Lunch or snacks – there are several food establishments within walking distance of the venue if preferred. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided.

Participants must wear enclosed shoes.
