Workshop Title: Introduction to Photography 

Tutor: Ronita Neal

Workshop Summary: The workshop will take participants through the basic features of the camera, expose the common mistakes people make, and explain the basics of how to compose a photo to have impact. We will look at how to “see” what will make a good photograph as well as how technical and artistic skills work together to enable people to capture with the camera the image the see with their eyes. The workshop will also include an explanation of how to choose a camera and other equipment that will be relevant to the type of photos they would like to take. The presentation of the workshop material is via digital display allowing the participants to see visual examples of the topics being covered in the workshop as well as the teaching points. This workshop will include practice sessions to help participants put what they have learnt into practice. These images can also be reviewed as the workshop progresses to assist participants acquire a better understanding of topics covered • Understanding of the basic controls and options for operating a camera • Know what to consider to choose the right equipment for their needs • How to compose the photograph to make the most of the • Understanding the common mistakes people make • Increased confidence in taking photos of a variety of subjects in different settings (e.g., people, events, travel, flowers etc)

Workshop Title: Introduction to Photoshop

Tutor: Joachim Froese

Workshop Summary: The workshop will cover basic skills in digital image manipulation based on the use of Adobe Photoshop as software. While the use of Photoshop and/or Photoshop Elements is widespread many operators lack the basic knowledge about the structure of digital images and their manipulation to maximize picture quality. This course will give an introduction into basic skills needed to use the program successfully. This course is particularly recommended to teachers.

Workshop Title: Introduction to Digital Photography: the secrets of taking a great photo

Tutor: Joachim Froese

Workshop Summary: The workshop will cover 3 main areas of photography: Basic technical skills: You will learn about the basic functions of a digital camera and how to achieve the best image quality possible with the camera you use. Basic artistic techniques: You will learn simple ideas and composition tips to take striking and thoughtful photos. Camera equipment: You will learn what camera is best for you and what extra equipment you need. The course includes practical sessions and review of images taken during the course.

Workshop Title: Introduction to Pinhole Photography

Tutor: Joachim Froese

Workshop Summary: This workshop introduces students to the fun of pinhole camera. Pinhole cameras are self made boxes in which photographic paper is exposed with an image that is formed through a tiny hole in the front of the ‘camera’. The resulting paper negative can be reversed into a positive image. Pinhole cameras are easy to make, simple to use and can produce very sophisticated results.

Workshop Title: Make a calendar from the photos you take

Tutor: Judy Parrott

Workshop Summary: Participants photograph the story of their place and create a calendar from the photographs they take. The course teaches elements of composition and design to develop skills for taking better photographs, and focuses on using photography to develop the art of seeing. The resulting calendar is sent to Apple for professional printing.

Workshop Title: Antarctica Artist Residency slide show presentation and photography workshop

Workshop Summary: Participants learn about community life in Antarctica as experienced during an artist residency at the Australian Casey Station. Learning elements including composition and design to develop skills for taking better photographs will follow a slide show and talk.

Workshop Summary: This workshop introduces students to the mysterious environment of an old fashioned darkroom. It teaches techniques that can be adjusted to beginners or advanced level. This course is particularly useful to schools with a darkroom in use and to teachers and students who want to improve their skills in the darkroom further.

Workshop Title: Computer Imaging Level One

Tutor: Donna Robinson

Workshop Summary: This workshop will provide the student with an introduction to using Photoshop in developing printed images. Emphasis will be placed on creative experimentation with digital media that interprets concepts and themes that relate to place and identity. Participants on completion of this workshop will have an understanding of basic Photoshop techniques and how digital media can be used as a conceptual tool for visual communication

Workshop Title: Taking Your Photography Further: Refining your photography techniques through a creative project.

Workshop Summary: The workshop will take participants through using more advanced features of the camera, expose the common mistakes people make, and demonstrate how compose a photo to have impact. We will look at how to “see” what will make a good photograph as well as how technical and artistic skills work together to enable people to capture with the camera the image the see with their eyes. The presentation of the workshop material is via digital display allowing the participants to see visual examples of the topics being covered in the workshop as well as the teaching points. This workshop will include practical sessions to help participants apply what they have learnt to their own subject interests and equipment. Basic discussion of output options. Outcomes • Understanding and using the more advanced controls and options for operating a camera in different situations • Understanding the strengths and weaknesses of their equipment • Combine technical and artistic skills to produce an image with impact or mood • Understanding of how to make the best use of available light • Increased confidence in taking photos of a variety of subjects in different settings.
