Buddha Girls and Iconic MomentsBuddha Girls and Iconic Moments is a very special touring exhibition of mixed media works by Dr. Anneke Silver from Townsville and Inez Fritschy from the Netherlands. The artists have developed these exquisite works in response to their travels in regional Queensland. Inez Fritschy’s twelve “Buddha Girls” are small-scale works on canvas focusing on her impressions of regional Queensland whilst tutoring for Flying Arts in 2007. These 12 works are part a series of 150 Buddha Girls that the artist exhibits all over the world. Anneke Silver’s six “Iconic Moments” were produced in response to special and spectacular moments during the artist’s travels in regional Queensland, as a tutor for Flying Arts. Anneke has travelled widely for Flying Arts over a number of years. Anneke keeps a visual diary while on her tours and these works are based on her diary entries. The artist uses the format of a religious icon from time to time in her practice to link the everyday with the extraordinary; or to mark connections between symbols and experience. Access the Buddha Girls and Iconic Moments online gallery here. Bound Contemporary Queensland photographers Paul Mumme from Bunya and Craig R. Cole from Toowoomba display innovative techniques and fresh imagery in this touring exhibition bound for Queensland galleries. Paul Mumme’s visual metaphors are part of an ongoing investigation into irony, contradiction and pointlessness within human behaviour.Mumme is represented in the Daryl Hewson Collection and his work was included in the 2007 ARC Biennial Exhibition at QUT Art Museum. Craig R. Cole’s photographs challenge the viewer, and question the role of the photographer and the validity of traditional portraiture in what it claims to capture.Cole was an intern at the Irish Gallery of Photography. He has lectured in photography at the Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design & Technology in Ireland and tutored in photography at Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE. Paul Mumme and Craig R. Cole were prize-winners in the 2007 Flying Arts Regional Art Awards. Access the Bound online gallery here. Don't miss out on these exhibitions!
