Artist Statement

This work was begun two days after 11 September 2001 and finished in 2003. On 11.9.2001, as I watched the events unfolding on the TV, unbidden words fell from my mouth. “Things will remain changed forever now.” I attempted to represent this symbolically in paint. The roses and old cupboard were used as emblems of ordered, settled living. The cosiness and comfort they represent felt under threat on that day.
