Tracey Johnson Artist Statement This work was inspired by the tidal sand flats around Mackay. An in-between place, it, it can only be inhabited by creatures that survive the diurnal exposure and inundation. The mangrove seeds put out little roots in the hope that they will be taken by the tides to a place which will sustain them. I find the sand flats to be a place of great beauty and respite. Never still, the ebb and flow continues on as it has for millennia. Here I find a contemplative space, where I can just be, and be replenished by the landscape.
