Artist Statement

Charlie was an old Australian Fiddler,born at Bingara.

Charlie passed his tunes on to a group of young musicians who formed the Horton River Band bringing his music and culture into the modern day folk scene.

I worked from a photograph of Charlie taken by Chris Sullivan and of the Horton River Band taken by Kevin Bradley with  permission.

The centre image of Charlie is the true representation with exaggerations on each side, showing how Charlie’s face was left distorted after a skin graft.
