Alternative firings Ishta Wilson
Participants will build their own kiln, learn how to pack their work in the kiln with sawdust, wood shavings, organic materials and oxides and then fire the kiln. One alternative firing technique will be chosen – either pit firing or paper kiln firing. Download Ishta's outline here
Ceramic hand building for alternative firings Ishta Wilson Learn hand-building techniques using coils and slabs and joining clay and modelling techniques. The material properties of clay and the considerations for low fire alternative firings (paper kilns, pit firing, bon firing) will be explored along with traditional surfacing materials and processes such as slip, terra sigillata and burnishing. Outdoor mosaic masks Claudia Williams
This workshop is a basic insight into the ancient art form of mosaics. Participants will learn about contemporary mosaic practise and will incorporate recycled materials like kitchenware items (cake tins to teapots) and brightly coloured ceramic tiles to construct a sculptural mask. He has practised in a wide rangeof settings and devised workshops to suit the needs of children,adults, seniors and people experiencing disability. Grant is currentlycompleting the construction of a 10 metre woodfired tunnel kiln, to beused in workshops and for firing his diverse range of clay wares.
